Living Wills
A living will is a document that sets out a patient's wishes regarding health care and how they want to be treated if they become seriously ill and unable to make or communicate their own choices.
It can request that a person is kept alive for as long as possible or it can request that life sustaining treatment is refused.
As well as detailing specific future instructions for medical treatment, a Living Will can also appoint a Health Care Proxy. This may be a close friend or member of the family who will make decisions on their loved one's behalf, should the need arise.
If, for any reason, you are worried about your future medical care, a Living Will offers you peace of mind that your wishes will be followed. It is based on the principle that we are all entitled to refuse medical treatment.
Living Wills are recognised by all professional medical bodies including the British Medical Association and the Royal College of Nursing. Call us for expert advice on 0800 990 3219.
